We applied for a grant, last July, that our city was taking applications for, it's a housing development grant to help low income families fix up their house. We were approved!! We get $12,700.00 to go to fix our house. We will be getting a new roof, windows, doors, siding, and our bathroom is pulling away from our house and they will be fixing that also. They should start working on our house starting some time next week.
Our kitchen, boy's bedroom, laundry room, enclosed back and enclosed front porch leaks badly. When they came in and tested the house for any lead, they found that the girl's bedroom window has high lead and our bedroom window has lead also. So we can't wait to get the new windows!
They said we can apply again next year for the grant also. Which we will be doing, since we have alot more that needs to be fixed. But at least we can get the main things fixed. They estimated to fix our house would have cost alittle over $25,000.00, so maybe by next year we can have a good house finally. They go for the applications of the elderly, disabled, and needs of the house first.
We are so excited!!!

I can't wait to be able to open my windows in the summer!
This is an old house, it was built around 1890. We have lived here since March 1996, alittle over 12 years. So we need these repairs badly.

Congratulations! That's awesome to get a grant to make the needed repairs instead of having to foot the bill entirely on your own. It's amazing what a difference a new roof and windows will make, let alone the siding, too. You'll have a new house!
