I have a strong-willed daughter (6 1/2 years old) and I was wondering what discipline works for you? What do you do to maintain order and control over this kind of personality/character? I have used LOVE & LOGIC, 1-2-3 Magic, giving her more attention and I have resorted to spanking but that just makes the situation worse so I try VERY hard not to use that.

All of mine are very strong-willed. I've tried most parenting techniques and keep the parts that work. I've had good results with 1-2-3 Magic, although I haven't done it for a while. Love & Logic has worked well, although I have to be really on top of things to stay consistent with it. Positive attention is always good, but difficult to find those good opportunities. Most of mine don't respond to spanking at all, so we've dropped that as a discipline technique. Another resource that I found helpful was the book "Raising Your Spirited Child" by Mary Sheedy Kurcinka.
Hang in there. She may always keep you on your toes, but they do mellow out a little over time. Mine are 10.5, 9, 7.5, 6 and 19 months.
