McNeil Consumer Healthcare reveals that an uncharacteristic musty smell led to the initial -- and now expanded - product recall. Reports of nausea, vomiting, stomach pains and diarrhea were eventually traced back to 2,4,6-tribromoanisole, a metabolite of a chemical fungicide associated with the treatment of wood used in pallets. These pallets, in turn, were used to transport the packaging materials that would later be used for bottling the Tylenol caplets.

The FDA announces that McNeil Consumer Healthcare is expanding its Tylenol Arthritis recall to include all Tylenol Arthritis Pain Caplet 100 count bottles that come with the easy to recognize red "EZ-Open" cap.

Stop using the Tylenol product immediately. Consumers may inquire about refunds and credits by using the company's online email contact - referencing the Tylenol Arthritis recall 2009 - or calling 1-888-222-6036 from eight in the morning to eight at night (Eastern Time) Monday through Friday, and nine to five on the weekends.
