Adam arrived early Wednesday morning (12/30/09). He was a whopping 8 pounds, 14 ounces and 21 inches long! We were both able to come home on Friday. Trying to get some feeding issues sorted out, but other than that we're doing great. The other kids love him to death already!

He's a lazy nurser. I think he just wasn't getting enough from me, not because of my production, but because of his latch issues. He went almost three days without a bowel movement, but finally had one last night, so I'm not worried on that end any more. He was just so fussy and seemed like he was never getting full for more than 15 minutes or so. (Made for very long nights of little snippets of sleep.) I tried pumping breastmilk and gave him 3 ounces and he finally slept well yesterday and did well through the night. Now I'm trying to get my supply built up again since his 5-minute nursing sessions weren't helping things. I may be pumping and doing formula both, but at least he'll get the advantages of breastmilk. We had a similar experience with Melissa but thought maybe it was just due to her being a preemie. Now I'm wondering if something changed in the 4 1/2 years between Lyndsey and Melissa??? None of the older 4 had any issues with breastfeeding at all!

I didn't get to breastfeed my oldest, his sucking reflex wasn't fully developed. I breastfed all my other kids ok, but Cassidy has had problems from the start. We are still going strong though despite everything.
She has a high palate which she has to breastfeed laying flat across my legs and she will stretch me out while nursing. Or she will nurse laying beside me. She has Mild-Moderate Oral Dysphagia, Mild Pharyngeal Dysphagia which causes some problems with her nursing.
I'm glad he slept good for you yesterday, your doing a great job!!!

My oldest didn't latch on for 6 weeks, but I didn't supplement, I had to pump and do that tube thing.. My Dr told me if i used bottles he would be less likely to latch on because the nipple on the bottle drips milk down and he doesn't have to work. What did work is one time I ended up being out later than expected and he got SUPER hungry and was forced to nurse... it took him about 15 min of screaming and trying but finally he latched. I took the pump back THAT day and then i had to fight to wean him later. Once he started, he never wanted to stop. Good thing he did, people would be talking if he kept on, lol!

I had to use a SNS feeder for alittle bit after Aaron was born. I wasn't allowed to breastfeed him until he was 3 days old and right before he was released from the hospital. He was on oxygen and when he came off the nurse hooked a SNS feeder to me with abit of formula, and then he started nursing. I ended up breastfeeding him until he was 2.5 years old.
I did use a SNS feeder a few times with Cassidy just until my milk came in fully.
How is Adam doing now?
