Doctor appointment on 9-22-08
      #79642 - 09/23/08 06:21 PM

I have been on Zoloft before, while breastfeeding but not while pregnant. I had an OB appointment yesterday and she decided to put me back on Zoloft since my depression is much worse since my mom died 3 weeks ago. She is putting me on 50mg but said I will need to wean off before the end of this pregnancy. I would hate to start it now just to wean off in a few months.

I really don't want to start on the Zoloft because I have bad dizzy spells coming off of it. She is sending me on Monday to talk to a therapist about losing ~Emma~ and my mom all within a years time. It's going to be hard for me to talk face to face with a therapist.

Does anyone know why I would have to get off of the medicine before I deliver?

I didn't even think to ask why at the time. She was getting on me for no weight gain, yet I did gain 2 pounds from my last appointment. But I'm still 8 pounds under my pre-pregnancy weight and I'm 7 months along. I do eat healthy, but with being depressed sometimes I have forgotten to eat lunch then Cassidy will start moving around then I will eat something. If I eat when I'm not hungry it makes me sick to my stomach.

Cassidy's heartbeat was 152 and she moves so much and I swear she's trying to poke her head out or something. She is measuring a week ahead. My blood pressure is fine and I had to drink that yucky stuff to check for Gestional Diabetes yesterday also.

Here's my belly photo from two days ago, 27 weeks 3 days...

Amy,
Sorry to hear you are going through a rough time but it is understandable.

From working at a hospital this is what I know about Zoloft.

There have been reports of fetuses being exposed to Zoloft during the third trimester of pregnancy developing complications that require hospitalization, respiratory support. Also, babies exposed to Zoloft late during pregnancy are at increased risk for developing persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn (PPHN).

The doctors wean you off so that the baby doesn't have breathing problems after delivery.

Talking to someone might help, I'm here for you if you need someone. Sending you prayers.

Janet

Thanks for the information. I read up on it late last night. I don't want to put this baby through any of that.

Aaron had to be on oxygen after he was born due to thick meconium, and it tore me up he was having some breathing issues. I wasn't allowed to breastfed him and rarely got to hold him even though he was only in the hospital for 3 days. I was lucky he started to breastfeed on the 3rd day before being released.

I don't want to risk Cassidy having breathing problems from any medicine I would take. So I have decided not to take the Zoloft. I will see the therapist, talk to my husband, talk to my dad, and you wonderful ladies here.

Thanks for the prayers and everything!!

Amy,
I am so sorry you're so depressed. losing loved ones is hard on us all.
We are hear for you and praying. In Dec. 2005 I lost my Great Uncle to Cancer, then April 2005 my Aunt ( my dad's sister) to Breast cancer, in June 2006 my Uncle ( my dad's brother) from Cancer, October 2006 my brother in law passed away from many health problems, then Nov. 2006 a very good friend died unexpectantly.
It is so hard when anyone you love passes away, but when 1 or 2 or more pass away so close together it is VERY hard.
What helps me is knowing that they are in Heaven and no longer in any pain.
also, talk to your Pastor@ church, that helped me.
Writing in a journal helps too.
I write my feelings down, get it out, never keep it inside.
You have many wonderful things to look forward too, the birth of your daughter especially.
Know that Your Mom will always be with you. She and your Angel love you.
Try to relax if possible and talk to your family about
how you feel and we are all here for you.
Hugs,
Kelly
